Just to let everyone know, we got a response from the video competition, but they still have not chosen any winners.

Thanks so much for your video submission for the 2013 Take Me Outside
Student Video Contest. We’re enjoying watching why you think Canada has
one of the best backyards in the world! Spending time outside is really
important and we have an awesome country to do that in. So thanks for
helping spread that message!

Currently, videos are being judged in each of the two categories –
grades 1-6 and grades 7-12. Once the judging is complete, we will
inform winners via email or phone call. This will likely happen by mid

Mountain Equipment Coop has donated some great prizes for this
competition, including tents, sleeping bags and packs – perfect prizes
for spending more time outside! If your short video is chosen as a
winner, it may also be viewed at the Banff Mountain Film and Book
Festival, which takes place at the end of October!

If you have any more questions right now, please let us know.
And we’ll be in touch soon to make some announcements.

In the meantime, have fun getting ready to go back to school next week
and hopefully you can still find time to go outside!

Video update

Our class video “The Reluctant Participant” has been submitted to the TMO Student Video Competition (presented by Mountain Equipment Co-op and the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival).  One of our students came up with the idea, and then it blossomed after that.  The class had a lot of fun putting this one together.  It is the story of a young boy who does not want to participate in our classroom outdoor activity in gym class.

Here is the link.  I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Have a wonderful summer!

It’s the end of the year, and what a year it has been.  Tomorrow is our last day of school, but I thought I would post this today.  It has been a pleasure to teach this class and I wish them all the best in grade 6.  Thanks to all the parents and volunteers, your support has been appreciated.  To the students, your sense of humour and creativity has made the class a very fun place, and learning is always best when you’re having fun!

I really enjoyed the videos we made (What Can You Do, the Gymnastics Trailer, the Stop Motion videos, and the Capture the Flag video we will be submitting to the Banff Film festival… I will put up a link on this blog with some information when the editing is finished).  The art work this year was amazing, and I really enjoyed the Gallery Walk.  We had some ancient Egyptian Warriors become Pharaohs (Egyptian Warrior Game) and we had and Ancient Greek Battle of the islands.  Mrs. Sarte-Dance and Mrs. Goodsell did some wonderful singing and dancing with the students. Some students made it on the school Basketball team and others went to the Regional Track and Field Event.  We also got to see some Canadian gymnastics heroes and stars at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships.  It’s been a great year!

Have a wonderful, restful, summer.

Michael Wendler 🙂
